Description: A sequence of three glowing vessels entitled Respect, Read and Rest which serve as beacons for reflective journey of the mind and the body across Lake Union and beyond. The three artworks are located on Eastlake Avenue East between Boston and East Roanoke Street.
Artist Statement: The Zen proverb that wraps each vessel’s edge evokes the ritual of travel on Eastlake. Lake Union is just blocks from this thoroughfare yet blocked from view by continuing development. Tales of mythic voyage weave the two geographies together.
A Lushootseed tale unites the specifics of the site with the origins of travel by water. The flight of Icarus pulls one inward and then thrust the viewer outward to virtual travel in the World Wide Web.
