Lola

Lola is my mother’s tia (aunt in Spanish). Her life story is inspiring to me and I found it necessary to document her. Tia Lola’s 2nd marriage was to Nolan, who was 20 years younger. Sadly, Nolan died 5 years into their marriage. After his death she felt a lack of purpose in her life. She was so radiant and joyful prior to his death, always dancing. To provide for her children she dedicated her life to growing fruits and vegetables. She began to relish gardening and began a business selling papayas, mangos, tomatoes, and more. She found new purpose and healed from the grief of her husband's passing. –Artist statement
