ln the Imperial Potato Print Painting series, I try to identify imagery that has historically been used as a motif representative of a cultural or national identity. The selected emblems include a British lion, an American eagle, a west coast First Peoples raven, a Canadian maple leaf and a two-headed Russian eagle. Utilizing self-directed printing methods, involving potato prints and rubber stamp techniques, the chosen iconography is repeated and contrasted in large paintings on canvas. These compositions are reminiscent of military campaign charts, or maps demarking territorial property boundaries. –Artist statement
