Cal Anderson Park

Artist Statement: I watched the pressure-washing crew blast clean one of the most beautiful memorial murals I’ve ever seen. George Floyd’s name and the words “my daddy changed the world” were painted beautifully onto one section of the park. To watch that removed made my heart hurt. In fact I couldn’t watch the whole time because I started to cry. I understand why the area needed to be “cleaned”, “swept”, whatever you want to call it, but that mural was beautifully done and respectful so I wish it could have stayed.
