Aho takes found photographs and re-constructs them into images that are at once familiar and exceeding strange. While there is nothing overtly sinister about his reworked portraits of children, they apparently have the ability to make some viewers uncomfortable.  Perhaps what makes them so disconcerting is Aho's placement of these strange children in ambiguous, perhaps risky circumstances.  To look at these images is something like staring at the smiling faces of missing children whose pictures appear on the sides of milk cartons. They contain that same juxtaposition of innocence and horror.
