Rabbits are commonly seen on the grounds of the decommissioned army base at Fort Flagler.  In this work, one of them appears in the beam of a visitor's flashlight.  It seems more than a chance encounter, more as if the rabbit is intent upon delivering a message.  In both Greek and Chinese mythology the hare is associated with the moon.
