As a student at Woodstock, New York, Boyer Gonzales (1909 – 1987) was introduced to the abstract landscape painting developed by Paul Cezanne, who became a major influence in his work.  A longtime professor of art at the University of Washington, Gonzales wrote in 1983, …my work stems from visual experiences, but it is not representational in the traditional sense. –Artist statement
