South Seattle Neighborhood

I have had a career-long fascination with light, daily objects, mundane – sometimes even absurd local landscape.  This painting, a perfect example of a residential street in South Beacon Hill, is part of a series exploring Seattle landscape.  As a painter, I am drawn to the perfect round green-yellow shrubs, the way light falls on them like fruit in a still life, and the rhythmic patterns and colors of the rows of houses in the background.  It portrays the dominant aesthetic of an entire community. –Artist statement
