Masked Girl

I appropriate images from a wide range of sources – from engraved illustration in 17th c. French storybooks to zoological illustrations from old encyclopedias and textbooks – embracing the prettiness of such cliché images from the West and revealing their polemic nature. My intent is to create work that embodies a new symbiosis between the East and the West, the exotic and familiar, banal and refined. –Artist statement
