A native of Mississippi, Hayes began his art career as a designer for TV in Boston. “The Boxers” continues that original interest with the bright lights of the mass-media. His images, however go beyond the mass media genres by integrating art-historical references such as Edward Degas and George Bellows. The artist’s people exude a vulnerability, underlying an apparent triumph or humiliating defeat.
