The nuclear weapons build-up of the 1980's brought back memories of an earlier, cold war era. My father, a general contractor, built a number of basement bomb shelters, and I occasionally would have a vivid bomb dream, featuring a blinding flash and a cataclysmic red sky. These visions made the strange, little cinderblock rooms seem vastly inadequate. –Artist statement
