Since the Renaissance, painting has been, for the most part, about illusionary space. That is, depicting something as if one were looking through a window at it. In the twentieth century, the concept of illusion has been challenged. It has been replaced to some degree by artists who make no attempt to fool the eye, but instead paint in a way to remind the viewers they are looking at a flat surface with paint on it. In this work, the artist walks a line between the two spaces, our real space and an illusionary one.
