Loveful Heights

When I begin a collage, I think first of color and what mood I would like to attain. Preparation includes gathering paper scraps, marbling new batches of paper, and making paint drips. After I have gathered my materials I cut new shapes out and move them around until I feel that I have a rough composition to work from. As I work, I often reflect upon the places I've traveled to or experienced through books and films. Loveful Heights takes its name from a fictitious mountain in Jamaica. In the Jamaican documentary Land of Look Behind, someone describes a place called Loveful Heights where they are to meet up with friends. I recreated this landscape in my collage. –Artist statement
