Northwest artist Rachel Van Citters, says of her this work, Cake Depot was created as an expression of celebration and grief that accrue as birthdays are warehoused in memory. If one wandered that depository with a flashlight, certain birthday memories would appear in the beam of light, while others remained just out of sight.
