The artist has repeatedly described himself as a product of Jesuit schooling that encouraged the rational, systematic and voracious study of the world.  Evans has for years produced a prolific number of artworks that look as if they were the product of rigorous study.  But his observations and formulas, like those of the alchemists he admires, are elegant exercises in pseudo-science. His comments are more about a self-created system of realities than a reflection of the real world. They are humbug, but handsome and an engaging humbug.
