Our Own Road

Appropriating images from popular culture and recycling them back into the Fine Arts has been around for a long time. But with the advent of Pop art in the late fifties and sixties, the practice became an acceptable and frequently used method by which artists generated images. By selecting impersonal, banal, commercial images made by others, artists like Savinar mine the cultural landscape for the things we see around us all the time, and then present them back to us full of irony, humor and sometimes anger.
