After mastering the traditional ceramic craft forms of pots, vases, and plates, Ford began to embellish the basic forms with sculptural appendages. Finally, the work becomes sculpture alone.
As I look back over my own evolution in sculpture, the work has kept pressing me toward the figurative and narrative. For me the figures that now emerge from wood and clay are the tellers of stories. They are as at home in the mythic sweep of history as in a particular event of personal experience. –Artist statement
