Ann Gardner is a nationally respected Seattle glass artist.  This is one of her early ceramic pieces, however.
Masks are among the oldest forms of art made by humans. Once used to conceal identity or to portray a character, spirit or demon in ritual, masks are as old as human culture. In the late twentieth century, artists are free to take this ancient form and playfully transform it from something sinister or somber into something fragile and cheerful.
