Mary Janes

This small monument memorializes childhood.  The artist's work is inspired by my relationship with my four-year old daughter and examines gender and identity.  Using images from fairy tales as a metaphoric framework, I have fabricated a series of keepsakes and mementos that explore female legacy that is handed down, desired or not, by nature of the female body, cultural expectations, and familial experiences.
