As a well known Northwest artist who works primarily in fiber work, she asked herself, ”What can I say with fiber that I can’t say with any other medium? The answer for that, for me, is that fiber comes loaded with associations even before anything is created from it; associations having to do with the domestic, ritual, warmth, shelter, childhood, the feminine. In Five Citizens, I tried to create a representation of the portrait subjects.
