There is an ambiguous, gray area between realism and representationalism.  Unlike realists who faithfully record what can be directly observed, I choose to represent my images with a great degree of alteration, editing with mutable inventiveness that I believe transcends realism.  …aside from the formalities of construction (form, space, composition, and the wonderful idiosyncrasies of ricocheting light) there must be, for me, the ineffable and universal attraction of the human figure, or its implied presence, that complete the work as art.
