Portland artist Lucinda Parker is one of the Northwest's preeminent painters. In this fresh body of work she makes new her trademark compositions of collided organic and geometric shapes, richly colored in high contrast against black and white masses. Using thick slabs of paint occasionally drizzled with thin washes, inscribed with skinny dripping lines here and there, she invents abstractions with symbolic resonance. Overlapping forms and partial stabs at perspective suggest volumes in space. Most of all Ms. Parker wants to surprise herself.
Portland artist Lucinda Parker has investigated abstraction since the early seventies. She usually paints large, dynamic canvases that successfully combine a strong geometric foundation with an exuberance of paint.
