My art empowers and celebrates the beauty of black women in all our facets. Despite the fact that discrimination has persevered in white society and has sadly been accepted in my black community. I was born in Malawi. I grew up in a poor slum of Lilongwe, called Biwi. I was adopted at the age of 8 by my Canadian father who worked for Unicef. I moved to Canada to finish my education and graduated from Emily Carr Art & Design University. My work is meant to be a celebration. It is a call to creative freedom. –Artist statement
