In his groundbreaking work of human anatomy, De Humani Corporis Fabrica (On the fabric of the human body), 1543 Andreas Vesalius describes the body with unprecedented accuracy and detail and strives to create a poetic expression of humanity through his illustrations. These drawings were a result of meticulous observation, opening new ways for Renaissance medicine. Tihanyi’s work, meticulously sewn and cut, depicts the veins of the belly as described by Vesalius and thus pays homage to scientific endeavors and discoveries. Timea Tihanyi is an interdisciplinary visual artist and sculptor, who also holds a medical degree from her native Hungary. –Artist statement.
