Eclipse and Corvus are part of a series on Crows and Ravens, persistent and enigmatic subjects of folklore and art, particularly in the Northwest. Though neither piece represents a specific myth or legend, they explore my own interpretation of the larger than life roles these birds symbolically play in our imagination: a raven creating a solar eclipse, a crow eternally watching over the earthbound from the skies. My initial research started firmly in the pragmatic but was quickly led to the more mysterious by these two highly intelligent branches of the Corvidae family. –Artist statement
