Corona

I started this sculpture in January 2020 when I saw a picture of the virus. At first, I was just interested in the form. I had been working with these shapes for a while now, so it was a natural extension of my work. I saw it as the corona virus with gold on the inside, a crack in the surface, showing what is truly inside. The virus has shown many fault lines in our society. Hopefully as these are shown, they can be corrected. A corona is also a crown as well as a glowing circle of light around an object, such as the sun’s corona. A personal crown and circle of light that resides in all of us. –Artist statement
