One of Coyote’s jobs, when two-legged people were going to come and inhabit the world, was to slay monsters that were going to be a threat to humans. In Coyote and the Monster’s Yet to Slay I-v1, Coyote comes across a voracious monster who has consumed all the people. I thought about this greedy monster, who kept eating until everyone was gone and it reminded me, we have all these societal monsters that still need slaying, like the economic model of perpetual growth and the endless consumption the monster demonstrates. It inspired me to imagine ways that Coyote stories could signify that work for us. –Artist statement
