An Evening Shower

Halfway through our Canadian Rockies excursion, we shifted our base from Lake O'Hara in Yoho to the Jasper region in the north. Once the much-needed laundry was done and the tent was up, we opted to make the most of the long daylight hours, setting off for an early evening stroll. The hike started rather uninspiring under dreary skies on a hard-packed dirt trail, with several parties of international tourists. After the crowd thinned out, a sudden shower forced me to take shelter under a large tree's canopy, where I spent the next half hour fully immersed in the view before my eyes. Although I concentrated mostly on the composition, the distance to the rain streaks and the shutter speed turned out to be spot-on as well. –Artist statement
