The design of this Latvian hand woven belt is from Latvia's region of Krustpils by the river Daugava.  The cross-hatch star, one of the oldest symbols seen in woven work is repeated in eight variations.  It is thought to be the symbol of soul given by god, but also is the star that at night guards against the evil spirits. –Artist statement
