The cross-stitch embroidery incorporates various ethnic symbols.  Starting from the center, the composition shows the round symbol of the Sun that radiates four large patterns in brown wool yarn.  The 'Jumis', the crossed stalks of grain, bent with seed, are the symbols of well being and fertility.  The 93 year old artist has participated with the Seattle Latvian embroidery group called Vakaretajas for the last 30 years.
