I studied textile arts in my native Finland before immigrating to Canada in the 1980s.  Nature is a place of contentment and renewal for me and I draw my images from the natural world.  My series based on spawning salmon is alluding to environmental issues as well as to the cycles of nature.  This piece portrays salmons stranded on rocks while following their hereditary pattern.  Falling leaves in the border contribute to the narrative by depicting the season. –Artist statement
