Water Carriers

Traditionally, the word genre refers to a particular category of art whose subjects are those of everyday life.  These tend to be somewhat idealized visions of how people work and live.  Using the complicated medium of batik, the artist here presents a group of water carriers portrayed in a way that makes their task look more like a dance than heavy lifting.
