Launch Bunch Breach Haunch

The abstract images found in this set of woodcut prints were extrapolated from photographs of the dams, reservoirs and wetlands of the Cedar and Tolt Rivers, which provide the potable water supply of Seattle and are managed by SPU. My main interest in image making is the intersection of abstract and representational art. I exploit the absence of a definite boundary between these categories to develop imagery that is both familiar and unrecognizable, that oscillates between the flat picture plane of abstraction and the illusionism of representation. I want to capture the energy present in an imperfect hybrid of pictorial opposites, the tension of uncertainty and impurity. –Artist statement
