The artist (Larry Knodel) worked under the name of R.E. Beans in the early 1980s when this print was purchased for the 1980 Bumbershoot Poster Competition.  He studied at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, which he described as a community that strongly supports the work ethic (the lights are always burning in the art department). He chose CWU as one of the few schools with a silk-screening (serigraph) program.  First developed to produce advertising posters, the serigraph became a popular method of printing precise line and flat color.
