Encaustic is an ancient medium for painting. It consists of a mixture of colored pigments suspended in beeswax. The layers of color are applied warm and solidify as they cool into a surface that seems layered and deep. Goldberg is one a small number of artists who use this difficult medium to create rigorous geometric abstractions.
