Description: Nathan Jackson, a well-known artist in the region, is a member of the Tlingit Indian tribe, one of the Northwest’s foremost woodcarving people. In this work he has combined the traditional characters of man and killer whales in a contemporary design of his own. This panel is executed in western red cedar boards, painted in traditional colors with acrylic paint. The panel is carved and has surface adzing on the unpainted areas. This design relates to legends and artistic expression predominantly among the Pacific Northwest Coast region.
