Harold Balazs was a native of Spokane, Washington and created these abstract bronze gates as part of the Opera House that was built for the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. When the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall was built at the Seattle Center, the Balazs gates went into storage. These gates have recently been refurbished and installed here in the Seattle Municipal Tower. Balazs studied art and sculpture at Washington State University and was an important and active Northwest artist.
