Jacobsmeyer says, "By depicting my subjects so they can only be seen undistorted from an oblique angle I place the normal viewer in a viewing position that is contingent and protean. Cindy Sherman, born 1954 is one of the most highly respected and widely known artists in the last 25 years.  She is a photographer, but not in the traditional sense.  She is the person behind the camera lens of the camera, as well as the model and subject of her photographs; however, her images are not self-portraits.  She wears masks, costumes, and uses mannequin parts and props to create different identities. She says she is trying to make other people recognize something of themselves rather than me.  By so doing, her work investigates how people create their own self-image."
