William Cumming, born in 1917 is a well-known self-taught artist and member of the Northwest School.  His imagination takes flight in colorful figurative tempera paintings distinguished by complex, fluidly interwoven compositions.  He worked on WPA projects in the '30s, witnessed a legendary Cornish fracas starring John Cage and Morris Graves, won Bellevue Art Museum's lifetime achievement award in 1995.  - Victoria Ellison, Seattle Weekly, April 2000.
