Ladder

Ladder was inspired by the alleys of SODO, a collage of colorful side-by-side businesses that are part of the foundation of the City. I love this part of the Seattle because some of its history is still evident in the architecture and signage, because it is built on a humanist scale, because it feels somewhat DIY. There is some poetry in the smaller structures that embellish the buildings – there is beauty in the ladders and drainpipes and wires that lead the eye through the landscape and in the knowledge that all have an important purpose, and are the product of invention and creativity. –Artist statement
