My current project is painting former Capitol Hill gathering spots, memorializing beloved spaces that have been displaced or replaced in our rapidly changing city. Independent bookstores are important community hubs, offering spaces for folks to meet, browse, learn, share ideas, gain inspiration, build creativity, and so much more. Bailey-Coy Books was a small, very loved LGBTQ+ affirming bookstore on Broadway from1982 to 2009. It played a large role in creating queer-affirming culture in Seattle, and I will always remember it as a place I spent much time in as a young person. –Artist statement
