Gone

This particular work started out as two similar portraits, one large and one small. It became apparent to me that this was not working, so I put the painting in the wash.Silk never really gives up a mark. A shadow of the image was left on the silk, accounting for the pentimento quality. I added another portrait on top and worked to complete the piece. It took on a memory of my mother's eyes when she was ill. People who are quite ill have a profound change of expression. –Artist statement
