The original interpretation of the word diptych refers back to an ancient painting or relief carving on two-hinged panels, usually an altarpiece.  Here the artist has labeled the work a diptych because the artwork has two definite panels divided in a formal composition.  The painting has the feeling of handmade paper with a natural appearing surface quality.
