Chuck Close, born and raised in the Puget Sound, is an internationally acclaimed New York artist.  For years Close has investigated the subject of close-up portraiture, using the photograph as a tool.  Breaking the surface of the face up into numerous facets, Close renders the portrait in a pointillist manner.  Viewed at close range, the portrait appears to be a series of gray patches.  From a distance, the portrait reveals itself.
