Description: Cables in the fiber-optic grid are arranged in an abstract pattern, reminiscent of the complex urban street grid that is patrolled by West Precinct Officers.  The cables change color slowly over time, providing an abstract marker of the 24-hour watch cycle.

Text sandblasted in the ceramic floor tile on the lobby floor was derived from interviews with officers that focused on the reasons for becoming an officer and what they felt the public should know about police work.  This text is also designed to echo the 2’ x 2’ sidewalk and plaza grid and is visible primarily to those who come to the precinct and have to sit and wait.

Location: Seattle Police Department, West Precinct, 810 Virginia Street, Seattle WA 98101
