During a trip to the Tule Tree, known for its great size (190 feet in circumference) and age (1,500-3,000 years old) outside of Oaxaca, Mexico, I noticed a small sculpture of a horse. It held my attention, and I knew it would find its way into my work. Something about the texture and shape of the horse reminded me of the gears of a bicycle and the scales of a fish, so I invited the three images to dance and play together. Upon completion, the three images that do not typically appear together, reminded me of the phrase "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle." Horsetalk, if you ask me. –Artist statement
