Martin Luther Thinking

Martin Luther Thinking is about his influences, the layers of text include childhood, family life, key Biblical texts he is known to have read frequently, and later history and politics surrounding him. Initially I had planned to cover two “columns” (panels) with text, but by the time I was ready to continue the second one, it became apparent that the painting needed to be finished—to express how his life and amazing work was stopped short when he was assassinated. I am grateful to have had the chance to learn more about Dr. King through this process and find myself grieving for what we lost. –Artist statement
