If you travel the straits and bays around the Sound, you observe the boundary between human landscapes and natural ones.  The monster that breaks through the veil between the pristine beauty of the Salish Seas and one of the most powerful port systems in the world can be viewed in many different ways.  In one way it can be the great unknown: swallowing the engines of progress, or an invasive body that disrupts the dynamics of the food web. This piece emanates Pacific Northwest landscape from the limited Emily Carr palette to the organic patterns of fish scales and tree trunks.  It functions as an abstract sort of map as well as an eerie bird’s eye view of a busy port.  It occupies the viewers eye and keeps one moving across the surface, following shapes while drawing the viewer in to recognize repeating patterns. –Artist statement
