This painting shows the artist's interest in a variation of minimalism, the bare-bones of geometric abstraction.  Here she has reduced her work to a combination of geometric shapes, colors and textures.  For years Ms. Sandvig made sculptures out of screen. She would fashion them into forms that were both present and transparent and vulnerable. This grid seems to be a close-up of that material she used to make her art, as if she might understand it better by looking closely and representing it slowly.
