A monotype is made from a drawing applied in tacky paint or ink to a metal plate or sheet of glass, and then pressed on to paper. The image is transferred with a texture and surface quality that is quite different than what could be attained by painting directly on paper. Here the artist adds to the texture with her direct application of pastel on top of the monotype.
